These caterpillars look really neat placed around the garden and with any luck they will scare off the real bugs ;-) With even more luck they might turn into a beautiful butterfly!

Here's what you'll need:

• 1 Egg Carton
• Green Acrylic Paint
• 2 Google Eyes
• Colored Pipe Cleaners
• Green Yarn or Heavy Twine
• Hot Melt Glue Gun

You might want to get some help from a grownup with cutting the egg carton apart.
Cut the lid off of the egg carton and put it aside.
Cut the bottom half apart down the center.
Using scissors cut along the edge of the egg pockets very close to the top.
Glue the two halves together using hot melt glue.
Paint your caterpillar a bugs color of green.
Glue your yarn around the edge to help hide the seam.
Make two curly cues from pipe cleaners to mount the eyes on.
Poke holes in the head for the curly cues . Glue the curly cues into the holes and glue google eyes onto the ends of them.
Make legs for each section of the egg carton using pipe cleaners. Cut them about 1 1/2" long and bend them at 90 degrees.
Poke holes in the egg carton for each leg. Glue the legs into the holes in the egg carton.
You can add more decoration to your caterpillar using marking pens or acrylic paint. We put pom pom feet on ours and added some sparkle to the top. Just go crazy and have a ball. Make each one different so you have a variety of caterpillars.

Now go put you caterpillar in the garden and see what it scares away.
